Emergency Medical Technician EMS Training Westerly Education Center Certificate $7,893.00  4-Months Various 160-Hours Y In-person Westerly Education Center None Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, RI communities saw a significant decrease in the number of licensed Emergency Medical Service (EMS)  practitioners. Regretfully, the current EMS is not diverse; practitioners are predominantly white men. According to a survey of over 101,000 EMS professionals, the diversity is sparse. The ethnic profile of the practitioners reports that 85% are white, 5% are Hispanic/Latino, 5% are Black/African American, 2% are American Indian/Alaskan Native, 2% are Asian, and 1% are Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander. According to RI Department of Health, these proportions are lower in Rhode Island. With funding, The Workforce Innovation Partnership, can recruit, prepare, and train culturally diverse EMS practitioners and help them obtain employment so that we can reduce the patient care gap in EMS. https://www.westerlyedcenter.org/ed-overview/ info@westerlyedcenter.org
