RI Certification Board

RI Certification Board: The Rhode Island Certification Board (RICB) offers examinations and certifications for alcohol and drug counselors, peer recovery specialists, community health workers, doulas, clinical supervisors, and prevention specialists. They also offer specialized endorsements for several certified occupations.

TRAIN Rhode Island

TRAIN is a national learning network that provides thousands of quality training opportunities to more than four million professionals who protect and improve the public's health. Powered by the Public Health Foundation (PHF), the TRAIN Learning Network brings together agencies and organizations in the public health, healthcare, and preparedness sectors to disseminate, track, and share trainings for the health workforce on a single national online learning management system (LMS) platform. TRAIN provides Rhode Island practitioners with the opportunity to: Search or browse the nationwide database for on‐site and distance learning courses developed either specifically for Rhode Island or for all states, sign up for e‐mails about new courses, create a personal learning record of competency‐based training, provide and view feedback about courses listed on the site, register online for many courses, and earn CEUs (often at no cost).

Brown University Health - Free Career Training Programs

Brown University Health’s Workforce Development program offers free education to under- and unemployed adults (18+) to become certified for entry-level health care positions in the fields of nursing, mental health, pharmacy and more. All programs are designed to be fully comprehensive, including in-field learning, job skill training, financial support for barriers to employment, and case management services.

Skills for Rhode Island’s Future

Skills for Rhode Island’s Future can help connect you to training programs for a variety of jobs and careers, including healthcare. Many of these are at a reduced cost. Visit the link below to see all the training programs. 

Wavemaker

This program offers qualifying individuals a refundable Tax Credit Certificate to help you with education loan repayment. In addition to the financial benefit, Fellows are invited to participate in various personal and professional development programs, social and professional networking opportunities, community-based events and more. This program has newly expanded these opportunities to healthcare specific applicants.

RI Reconnect

RI Reconnect is a free program that exists to help reconnect adults to educational and job training opportunities in RI. This program will connect you to an educational navigator, who is your personal cheerleader and guide through the process of returning to school or job training. They will help you identify a goal, create a plan to reach that goal, and connect you to the resources that will help you achieve that goal.

RI Department of Health

Health Professional Loan Repayment Program: Numerous federal and state loan repayments exist to help support recently graduated health professionals to work in health professional shortage areas.  To learn more, click on the RI Department of Health and National Health Service Corps links.
