Job Summary

A Case Manager is someone who works as an advocate, navigator, and coordinator of services and resources for their clients to help them manage their social, medical, and other care needs. Case managers work in a variety of settings. Across all settings there are five key components of case management: assessment of the client’s strengths and needs; treatment/case planning; referrals to other services and supports; monitoring and follow up; and advocacy and support. Regardless of the population you serve as a case manager, a substantial focus of treatment planning work with clients is the promotion and development of safe and healthy coping mechanisms

Required Education / Training Summary

To become certified as a Case Manager, you may be required to have a post-secondary degree (associate, bachelor’s, or master’s) in a related field, depending on the setting and the employer.

Case Manager Case Manager Training Community College of Rhode Island - Division of Workforce Partnerships Certificate FREE 5 months   20 credits plus externship Y (externship) hybrid Woonsocket, RI High School Diploma or GED CCRI, in collaboration with Community Care Alliance, is launching Case Manager training for people who want to work with adult clients with mental illness and other life challenges to ensure proper care options to meet their mental, physical, and emotional needs. Students will earn college credits from CCRI and participate in a paid internship with Community Care Alliance. Program graduates can expect to continue their employment as a full-time Case Managers with Community Care Alliance and earn a pay increase for successful completion. Students will also earn an accredited Certificate in Social Services and 20 college credits if they meet all program requirements. 

The Case Manager training runs for approximately five months and consists of a 2-week initial training to prepare students for a 20-29 hour per week externship. Students will continue their education by taking three classes at a time until program completion.
